A Vase of Lilies, Dahlias and Other Flowers, 1827

Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775–1851) was born in London and came to dominate British landscape painting throughout the first half of the 19th century. He established a reputation in the Royal Academy, first as a topographical watercolourist and then within a few years as a painter of sublime and historical landscapes. Tate Britain is home to the largest collection of Turner’s works, and holds largest free display of his paintings in the world.
